Stephen Price (Pricey) Defence/Midfield/Club Captain
Experienced footballer who learned his trade with Oldham Athletic under Joe Royle. Pricey will play anywhere across the back line or in central midfield. He joined the club in 2003 and has been a consistent committed performer for Town during that period. Pricey is a keen traveller and frequently provides commentary for magazines like Which Holiday and Eating Abroad.
David Briggs (Briggsy) Midfield/Defence/Team Captain
A product of the Ossett Town academy Briggsy debuted at 17 and has been a regular performer ever since. His no-nonsense attitude make him a firm favourite with team-mates, spectators and managers alike. Often a victim of his own versatility Briggsy will play anywhere never giving less than 100%. Ever since his debut Briggsy has fought off all challengers for the annual yard of ale sprint.
Neil Bennett (Benno) Goalkeeper
Neil is back at Ossett Town following appearances in the UEFA Cup and spells in the professional game with Partick Thistle. Benno is a commanding keeper and dedicated individual who coaches the junior keepers at the club. Benno is a keen collector of old comics and Elvis memorabilia.
John Hood (Hoody) Goalkeeper
John is a familiar face on the goalkeeping circuit and proved he is improving with age after scooping the 2004/05 player of the year award. Formerly with neighbours Ossett Albion and Glasshoughton to name just a couple Hoody is an excellent shot stopper who has defied many would-be goalscorers over the years. Hoody is a must for any dressing room with his casual manner and upbeat attitude.
Oliver Rawson (Ollie) Left Midfield/Defence
Left sided Ollie is another academy product who has broken into the first team squad following impressive academy and pre-season performances. A pacy individual who can operate in midfield or at left-back. Ollie is the envy of many away trips as his ice cold nerves of steel and confident bluffing earn him several ‘pots’ at Texas Hold ‘em and Snap.
Danny Brown – Defence
Danny joined Ossett two years ago and has been a dependable member of the back four until a severe ankle injury ruled him out for the majority of the 2005/6 season.
Kirk Wheeler Defender
Former Grimbsy Town centre-half has been a consistent performer since signing permanent following previous loan spells. Kirk is now enjoying the sort of consistent run and is becoming to form an almost telepathic understanding with fellow east coaster Allison. Kirk’s fun-loving approach is obvious as he spends his leisure-time as a stand up comedian which brings some coastal humour to the dressing room.
Rob O’ Brien Midfield/Attack
Rob has been plagued by injury since a promising pre-season was wrecked by severe ankle ligament damage. The former England schoolboy and Doncaster Rovers midfielder is equally comfortable on either flank with his ability to beat an opponent and strike off either foot e feature of this promising youngster. Rob is a volunteer worker and spends lots of his spare time at local Hospitals.
Ashley Scothern Forward
A recent signing from neighbours Frickley Athletic, the former England Youth international brings more Youth to a promising squad. A dressing room favourite with senior players like Price and Allison due to the huge discounts available from his day job at TopMan.
Joe Walsh (Jo) Midfield
Ex Huddersfield Town midfielder Jo is now enjoying his best spell since joining the club. His excellent technique and eye for a pass make him a potent threat in the opposition third. Local lad Jo is a keen Rugby League fan and is Ossett Town’s very own man of steel.
Tore Hansen Midfield /Utility
Signed September 2005 from Conference outfit Worksop Town the quiet Norwegian has settled well at the club and is an accomplished player with both feet. Excellent utility player who has become a regular starter for Town. Tore is a supply teacher in Rotherham and is currently enjoying studying French –apparently the demand for two footed French speaking Norwegians is high in his adopted Rotherham.
Darren Beesley Midfield
Darren made is debut in the Boxing Day victory over Bradford Park Avenue following a spell playing in the United States. The former Rotherham United midfielder possesses excellent strength and a deft touch. Darren works hard in training and is close friends with Benno, that may be just for the Elvis memorabilia!
Luke Staton Midfield
Another summer recruit from Gainsborough Trinity whose football pedigree is visible to the trained eye.An excellent passer of the ball Luke will look to play whenever possible. Luke played for England Youth alongside Wes Brown, Michael Owen and Jody Morris under the guidance of Howard Wilkinson. His short sharp passing game alongside his ever present training record are a perfect combination for the carpetlike surface at Ingfield.
James Coubrough (Coubs) Midfield /Attack
Recent signing from Bradford Park Avenue who may emerge as a crucial signing by Steve Kittrick. Coubs is an attacking midfielder who has already demonstrated the importance of the final ball couple this with a high workrate and it’s hard to understand why he was surplus to requirements at BPA. An Estate Agent by profession James offers his services at a reduced rate for First Team players.
Paul Rickers Midfield/Defence
The latest of Steve Kittrick’s signings from local rivals Farsley Celtic. Paul learned his trade as an apprentice at Oldham Athletic and surprisingly played in the same youth set up as our very own Steve Price. A very committed player who is not satisfied with training 3 times a week but also stays in shape by being a bookies runner.
Richard Marchant (Marchy) Midfield
Another new recruit, managed by Steve Kittrick as a promising teenager at Pontefract Collieries. Unfortunately his progress has been hampered by a severe knee injury. Marchy is a combative midfielder who will not shirk any challenge.
A keen pop music fan who has recently met Westlife and narrowly missed selection for the ‘90’s supergroup STEPS.
Chris Hurst – Midfield
32 year old who is supremely experienced at this level having joined us on mid season from Worksop. Chris has a wealth of experience having previously been at Gainsborough Trinity, Emley and Frickley Athletic and spending time at Huddersfield Town in the Coca-Cola League.
Chris is a no nonsense player who competes for everything and adds steel to the Ossett Town midfield.
Adam Arthur Midfield /Attack
Adam is another of the 2005/06 recruits and has struggled to hold down a first team place due to limited opportunities. A pacy individual who is coming to terms with the physical side of the game following his release from the professional ranks. A very mature attitude for a young lad whose spectacular goal in the FA Trophy enabled Town to progress in the competition. Adam’s crunching tackles are the feature of the dressing room debate as this no-nonsense individual accepts no prisoners.
Colin Williamson (Col) Midfield/Attack
Col is comfortable as a wide midfielder or as a central striker and will work tirelessly in either role. In his first season at the Club he is enjoying a regular place in the side and the transition from local league to Northern Premier is pleasing to see. An excellent athlete who is ‘Naturally Fit’and can frequently be spotted in fashion mags following his failed audition for 2005 X-Factor.
Andy Hayward (Chick) Centre- Forward
Ex professional with Rotherham United and prolific marksman throughout his illustrious career. Andy is back following injury and looks leaner and meaner than ever. His link-up play with Walshaw has been sorely missed and team performances have suffered. His recent appointment as Assistant Manager have resulted in Chick being an ever-present Captain who takes penalties.
James Walshaw (Wally) Centre-Forward
Another product of the Ossett town academy introduced to the club by Lindsay Dawson. Wally is enjoying his best season at the club and his exploits in the FA Cup earned him national acclaim. A target for several local sides Wally is coming to terms with the added pressure of being recognised and more recently did his first public appearance switching on the Christmas Lights in Thornhill Lees.
